Hydration – Drink Your Water
Hydration – Drink Your Water
Hydration is key! It’s an obvious fact that water is a necessary for us to drink, especially when living in the desert in the Valley of the Sun. With two-thirds of our bodies made up of water, it makes logical sense that drinking water is important. At Physiques Gym, we always remind our clients to drink up!
Reasons for Drinking Water:
Hydrate. Dehydration can affect many areas of our body and prevent it from working well. Here are some indicators or causes from dehydration:
- Increased thirst
- Dry mouth and swollen tongue
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Palpitations (the heart is pounding)
- Confusion
- Sluggishness fainting
- Inability to sweat
- Decreased urine output
- Sleepiness
- Dry skin
- Headache
- Performance decline
Flush or Body Detox. Drinking water flushes toxins out of the body. Consider these facts:
Water allows kidneys to filter and flush toxins from the body.
- It helps remove waste.
- Not enough water for flushing out toxins creates a buildup of them and decreases your immunity.
- Kidneys and other organs will not work productively without water.
Transport Nutrients. Water is a means to transport nutrients to every area of the body and this helps them all work well.
Benefits of Water for Workouts. Water can be extremely beneficial before, during, and after exercise. Consider these details about what it will help with:
- Begins hydration procedures before dehydration starts
- Maintains body temperature
- Nearly 2/3 of the body is made up of water and through exercise much can be lost and needs to be replaced
- Improves the quality of a workout
- Reduces fatigue
- Reduces recovery time
- Increases your level of satisfaction
While those are a few ideas to consider about the reasons for drinking water, the following are some more things about water to keep in mind:
How much water should you drink every day? While this can be debated by some, at Physiques Gym we recommend 1 gallon of water a day as a part of our overall nutritional and workout program. If you are exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures, exercise vigorously, or have a physically demanding job, you may need to increase that amount.
Mineral or spring water may be a better option for the type of water you choose to drink for detox and hydrating compared to tap water or reverse osmosis water. If mineral water is not always available for you, continue drinking anyway.
Your best method of staying hydrated is to start by drinking before and continue drinking after your workout. If possible, even drinking water during a workout is beneficial.
Anytime you are feeling thirsty, you are already experiencing dehydration. The best way to let water work for you is not to wait until you sense a thirst, but to drink a steady supply throughout the day here and there and not all at once. Keep in mind, hydration is a 24 hour process!
There is water in many drinks like coffee, tea, soda, sports drinks, etc., but none of these count toward your intake for simple water consumption. Some of them may actually increase your need for more water when they are loaded with sugar or other chemicals and toxins.
Now that you have some great information on water consumption in general, it’s time to start your program of hydrating, flushing toxins, and increasing the benefits that water can give you while at Physiques Gym. So, tip your bottle and enjoy!
